Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology (VNIT) is a public engineering institution located in the city of Nagpur, Maharashtra, India. It was initially known as Nagpur Engineering College (NEC) and was established in 1946. VNIT Nagpur was renamed after the engineer and statesman M. Visvesvaraya in 1962. It is one of the oldest institutions in the country for education and research in engineering.
